Adult Health I
This course provided me with an understanding of the nurse's role when concerning several chronic health related issues. Each disease was presented with the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, treatments options, nursing care, and medical management. In the class we had to choose a topic and create a poster to present to the class. I chose to teach the pathophysiology and treatment options for adults with Bipolar Disorder after an outside encounter caught my attention. This class was beneficial to me because I could apply the knowledge during clinical and relate it to life situations. It also enforced patient-centered care, teamwork, and collaboration.

Nutrition for Health and Healing
In this course I learned the importance of balancing nutrients for ones health, and how nutrition must be altered during several disease processes. The paper below was written to inform the general public about WIC services and how beneficial it is for woman, infant, and children. I am grateful for this assignment because I have passed on information I found during my research while educating patients.

Introduction to Nursing
In this class I learned the history of nursing and how it has advanced since Florence Nightingale's time. I also learned about nursing theorist, laws, and culture sensitivity. This class provided a clear picture of what was acceptable when interacting with my patients and what should be discouraged. I believe it is important to know the roots of your profession because it makes you a more well-rounded nurse. The presentation below required us to select a religion and research proper nursing care to provide satisfaction to the patient based on their belief system.

Pharmacotherapeutics for Nurses
This course taught me how to administer medications safely. I learned about different mechanisms of drugs such as absorption, half-lives, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. The presentation below was a group presentation that discuses childhood immunizations and immunologic drugs. The goal of our presentation was to inform patients on how to be aware of specific symptoms before getting immunizations because there may be a greater risk than benefit in special cases. We also pointed out side effects with immunologic drugs that should be monitored to prevent patient harm. This class enforced safety, informatics, and evidenced based practice which are important QSEN competencies.

Health Care Economics
This class taught me how nursing and health care economics correlate with one another. It also helped me to understand importance of staying up to date in current health care information. One topic briefly discussed in the class was Medicare part D and I chose to thoroughly research the topic and write a paper which is presented below.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing
This course taught me how to interact with patients who have different psychiatric illnesses. It also reinforced learning of the different psychiatric drugs that were first taught in pharmacology. The paper below is a comparative paper on Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). I chose these disorders because ODD and ADHD are prevalent in school aged children and often coincide with one another. This course really helped me grow because I was previously unaware of how to present myself to a patient with an altered mind state. During previous clinical rotations it made me nervous seeing a mental illness labeled on the chart. Now I walk in to the room with confidence that I can safely assist the patient with the required skills.

Fundamentals of Nursing
This course and clinical experience provided me with the understanding and background behind each skill within the nurses scope of practice including: vital signs, hygiene, sterile field, patient transfer, Foley insertion/care, NG tube management, and personal protective equipment. It was also the class that first enforced critical thinking, evidenced based practices, and the nursing process which is very important for success in nursing.

Adult Health Assessment
This course taught me the importance of assessment by focusing on adults. I learned how to perform a complete patient history and head-to-toe physical assessment. This class is where my confidence and professionalism was built the most during nursing school. I can now walk confidently in a room and withdrawal the information needed for the doctor to diagnose the patient.

Research for Professional Nursing Practice
This course taught me to utilize multiple tools to obtain scholarly and proffessionally written research. It also reinforced critical thinking and made the importance of evidence based practice noticeable.

Maternal Child Nursing
This course provided me with the necessary knowledge and skills to take care of laboring mothers, infants, and children up to the age of 18. We learned nursing skills in multiple situations such as deleiveries, post partum hemmorage, and eclampsia. We also learned the necessary differences when providing care to infants during CPR, IV insertions, and the overall attitude provided during care. This class was very difficult but the professor did a wonderful job helping is actually obtain and learn the necessary skills for maternal and pediatric nursing.

Principles of Leadership for Nurses
This course focused on proffesionalism and leadership in nursing. We were taught how to prepare for interviews, create curriculum vitaes, HIPPA, the different chains of command in nursing, and delegation. This class really prepared me with the skills needed to find a nursing job and present myself professionally. Without this class specifically, I would not be as confident when applying for jobs and the interview process.

Community Health Nursing
In Community I learned about the different types of nursing and was able to experince multiple different clinical oppurtunities to see there is more than bedside nursing out there. Some of the rotations completed were school nursing, hospice, and home health. We also learned alot about what to do in disaster situations and how to reach out in our community. This last was a true eye opener and allowed me to expand my knowledge of the nursing profession.

Adult Health II
In this course we focused on the necessary nursing skills and knowledge for acute illnesses rather than chronic like in Adult Health I. Each disease was presented with the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, treatments options, nursing care, and medical management. This course required us to complete and grand rounds project that enforced us to tie in every aspect of nursing school we learned while using a patient we encountered during the clinical. Our chosen patient was diagnosed with a Dural Venous Sinus Thrombosis. We worked as a group of four and had to create a presentation describing the diagnosis and making a care plan and developing nursing diagnoses for our patient. This class truly made me feel ready to begin nursing because it showed me how much I had learned from the start.

Capstone
This course focused on our final preceptorship. I precepted at First Health in Pinehurst, NC, in the cardiac ICU. This preceptorship was amazing. There was not one nursing skiil that I didnt get to use on this floor. I was able to attend codes, perform CPR, insert multiple folleys, insert IV's, Pass medications oral, IV, IM, subcutaneous, and intradermal. I was made very familar with tracheostomy care, PICC lines, and central lines. I was very thankful for the preceptorship I was given and felt ready to work on my own as a nurse after completion. We also wrote a paper in the class about the topic that we chose in our Adult Health class that intertwined between the two classes which is posted below.
