Nursing is the actions, characteristics, and attributes of caring for an individual no matter the person, environment, or circumstance. As the most honorable and trusted profession, nursing should be valued as more than a job. A nurse should have the desire to promote, restore, and maintain health for individuals not only in their specialty, but throughout the community. As a patient advocate, nurses should influence patients to be autonomous and take control in the decisions concerning their healthcare. Nursing is unique to other professions because they take on many roles: caregiver, decision maker, teacher, friend, and community supporters. Not only does nursing require care and compassion, but it requires the nurse to critically think and apply scientific knowledge to the situation at hand.
My personal philosophy is based on providing compassionate, impartial, holistic care that embodies critical thinking skills and evidence-based practice. As a student nurse, it became evident that a special bond and level of care is required to promote an individual’s well-being. Providing a positive atmosphere allows patients to have an uplifting outlook on their journey to recovery. Every individual deserves quality patient education and encouragement to set goals for their health. I thrive to exemplify these characteristics and positively influence the lives of each patient I encounter during my nursing profession. Every day is a learning experience that will transform me into a professional, leader, and expert nurse.
